Aegerten, October 1986

Et voilà, here it is - the first issue of EMME/2 NEWS! This quarterly news-letter should keep you up to date with the latest developments regarding the EMME/2 Transportation Planning System. It is also meant as a forum open to your contributions, be it technical questions that might interest also other users, hints on how you did things in your applications, suggestions for new developments and enhancements, or other EMME/2 related topics. The message I want to get across here is: ``PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!!'' This is your news-letter and I'll try to put in the things that you, the EMME/2 users, are interested in. Any questions or contribution should be sent to one of the addresses given below.

As some of you probably already know, in June I have left my teaching position at the University of Montreal and have returned to my native Switzerland. Here, I am devoting all my time to do EMME/2 Software Support and further develop and enhance the EMME/2 system. The result of my work so far is the new software release 2.0. The discussion of all additions and enhancements of this new release forms the main part of this issue of our news-letter, so I won't say much about it here. The fact, that all these new feature of EMME/2 you'll be using soon were all developed within the last three months, should give you an idea on how the system will look like a year from now! We still have plenty of ideas on how to improve EMME/2 (as you do probably too - let us hear about them!), and we are going to work hard to implement them.

This first issue of EMME/2 NEWS marks a new phase in the establishment of the exchange of technical information regarding new features of the EMME/2 system as well as the provision of a forum for EMME/2 users to communicate their experiences with the system. We find that EMME/2 is used often in ingenious and innovative ways for purposes that were not anticipated when the system was designed. EMME/2 News will provide you with the opportunity to share your ideas with other EMME/2 users in North America, Europe and elsewhere.
